Forensic Analyses of Motion Pictures & Video Imagery

FORENSIC ANALYSES OF MOTION PICTURES & VIDEO IMAGERY

Motion Pictures and Video Imagery has been created using a range of different systems over the years. These days 70mm and 65mm film stock is rarely produced or used. Smaller formats, however, such as 35mm, 16mm and 8mm film, are still used alongside High Definition (HD) and Ultra High Definition (UHD) digital video recorders. This fact alone illustrates the large number of formats in use. Since each imaging format arguably has its own production advantage all original work must be preciously guarded since trying to re-filim/re-record scenes is unlikely to be quick or easy.

The notoriously high expense of Motion Picture/Broadcast Video production and distribution means cut-backs are sometimes made. At times, camera/lens specifications and recording media may be compromised. Added to this, environmental factors (such as, poor lighting/weather) can further deteriorate the quality of work.

Directors and producers in the creative industries are often inspired by a number of sources or ideas. Social media without doubt helps broadcast material and other recorded content to spread far and wide. However, failing to correctly attribute all original sources and ideas also means the chances of upset or contention being caused may increase, too. When the stakes are high court action may result.

We know organising and presenting evidence which often features a vast number of technical and creative processes can very be difficult. Our forensic services are designed to help you overcome these complications. For improved peace-of-mind and to assist understanding, we can offer:

* Format Conversion — for safe and convenient playback on equipment you are more comfortable using.

* Video Image Processing/Noise Removal — to enhance the perceptual quality of critical content within evidential scenes.

* Video Image Scene & Event Chronology/Assessment — to more easily recall evident facts or contradictions which may otherwise get hidden by other distractions or issues during Court proceedings, etc.

* Physical Media Identification/Feature Comparison — of suspect goods/recording media or counterfeit Telecine Releases, DVDs, etc.

* Film & Video Image Continuity Testing — to forensically determine authenticity, detect editing, re-recording, or copying of disputed scenes and events.

* Scene Reconstruction/Event Re-enactments — used to produce the most stricking and clearest characterisations of questioned scenarios or incident(s). This is a powerful stand-alone tool for those who can not rely on eye-witnesses' testimonies or statements, etc.

* Proximity Mapping Analysis (PMA) — an ideal tool for objective measurements/comparisons against known references. Typical uses are for facial mapping and confirming likely height, physique or posture plus other features/items like ears, hand-held weapons, etc.

Our forensic film and video services are suited to evidential media created in a range of formats. You can give us details of your particular needs (and any important deadlines) by simply sending us your Forensic Film/Video Image Analysis Enquiry.
